A New Kind of Devotion

After three and a half years I’ve decided to restart this blog. I suppose this is more for me than for anyone who might choose to read it. By that I mean that I have been working on a novel for a long time, longer than I’d like to admit frankly, and I feel like I should bring some closure to this project. The working title of the novel is “The Mountain,” and I first started writing it for a group of college students I had the privilege of working with at Buck Creek Camp by Mount Rainier several years ago. I suppose they are all married and grown up now, but one or two of them said they liked what I wrote, so here we are. I mention all that to say that, at the beginning, this was not a novel in the strict sense, it was a devotional. Part of my job was to lead devotions each night for the camp counselors. I thought that a story with some biblical application might be a different way to approach devotions. So I would write a section during the day and then read it that night. We closed with a few questions and/or Bible passages. I had the grandiose idea that someday I would submit it for publication, but that hasn’t happened for one or two reasons. So, what I’d like to do is post a few pages each day with some questions at the end and maybe it can help you in your faith. Later today I will post the first installment, and we’ll see how it goes.
